July 1 marks as an important day for Icelandic beauty pageant community as the women vying for the title of Miss Universe Iceland 2016 were revealed.

Since meeting with the Miss Universe Organization on March 24, 2016 in New York City and acquiring the rights to produce and select Miss Universe Iceland, Jorge Esteban and Manuela Ósk Harðardóttir, the new national directors, have been working diligently.

A Miss Universe Iceland Launch Party was held in early May in Reykjavik at the host hotel CenterHotels Plaza which set the tone that Miss Universe Iceland would be a sensation and bring a modern contemporary competition to the country that has not been seen before.

Ultimately, over 110 women came forward and expressed interest in gaining knowledge and information on a pageant that has not been held in Iceland for the past 7 years.

After months of screenings, personal castings, Skype calls, FaceTime interviews and social media blasts, the field has now been narrowed to a select group of women.

With their extensive professional backgrounds in the modeling, pageantry and communications industries, Jorge and Manuela are establishing the framework for success on an international level.

The next few months will be busy for the delegates as they meet with sponsors, take part in group activities and photoshoots, choreography meetings as well as walking and interview workshops.

The girls will check in to the host hotel on September 10th and begin a 3 day process which includes personal interviews, swimsuit and evening gown presentations as well as media events. The finals for Miss Universe Iceland will he held on September 12, 2016 in Reykjavik at the Gamla Bio venue.
