Myanmar-born Charity Lu has been crowned as Miss World Singapore in an event held in One Farrer Hotel and Spa on October 21. Charity Lu, also known in her Burmese name Uru Seng Maw, beat 13 other beauties to clinch the title and the right to represent the city-state at the annual Miss World contest. This year’s pageant will be held in Sanya, China with the finals on December 19.
Singapore is yet to win the Miss World crown. It is currently ranked 61st in the Big4 Ranking and the country is steadily declining since 2010. It faces some problems such as limited participation of local beauties on pageants and it is increasingly reliant on foreign-born beauty queens.
