Major blackout at Miss Earth 2014

Despite gathering more then a dozen delegates with black African roots or ancestry at this year’s edition of Miss Earth 2014, no black delegate made it into the Top 16 of the annual pageant, which is now being held in Quezon City, Philippines.

Zambia’s Cartier Zagorski, is the lone southern African in the Top 16, but with a very evident European features.   She is joined by a fellow African – from the north – Nancy Magdy of Egypt, who is of Arab descent.  Incidentally, Egypt is one country where the reigning queen, Alyz Henrich of Venezuala, was able to visit where Nancy was crowned as Miss Earth Egypt.

A pageant with sponsors that endorse whiter skin, as well as beautiful black hair, it is quite interesting that no blonde beauty, except for Scotland’s Romy McCahill, qualified in the first cut, which was dominated by brunettes.
