The 65th Miss Universe candidates were given a taste of Filipino hospitality at the Governor’s Ball held on Monday, January 16 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

The ball was named after former Ilocos Sur governor Luis Chavit Singson, the host committee chairman.

“Tonight we officially mark the opening of the 65th Miss Universe competition. The long haul to bring the pageant back to the Philippines has ended. We have succeeded,” Singson said in his opening remarks.

Reigning Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach expressed excitement in meeting the candidates. ”I can’t wait to meet them, hear their stories, hear about their experience and I look forward to making more friends,” she said.

Former Miss Universe titleholders from the Philippines, Gloria Diaz (1969) and Margarita Moran (1973) also graced the event. Missosology.Org; Photos from Pao Nueve, PNA and LiveSmart Twitter account
