Missosology has long discouraged the use of ridiculously large national costumes in pageants. Not only are humongous costumes a logistical nightmare, these can injure and pose health risks to the contestants.
It was a welcome move that the Miss Universe Philippines organization decided to regulate its national costume show this year, with the Manila Carnival Queens as its theme. Without the need for oversized props, the candidates were able to showcase “the Filipina beauty, heritage, and artistry” without infringing the artistic freedom of the designers.
