Philippine gowns during its decade-long MU drought

It was a decade that Filipinos would gladly forget. It was 10 straight of non-stop clapping at Miss Universe and everybody was looking for a fall guy to explain such a long drought. Gowns that the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe winners used at Miss Universe could be a good culprit. After all, it is a crucial part of the competition and if it is not done right, off you go to the gutter.

It all started with Nina Ricci Alagao’s gown in 2000. She was touted to be a frontrunner but some pageant observers believe that her gold gown was drowned in the yellow colors of the venue – an old Greek amphitheater. But whether it is the lifeless walk of Jennifer Barrientos in 2008 or the shapeless cut of Anna Theresa Licaros gown in 2007 to the oversized necklace of Carla Gay Balingit in 2003, Filipino fans are up in arms against the fashion sense of Bb. Pilipinas. Here’s a quick look at the gowns used by the Philippines during its Clapper Decade. What do you think are bad side of each gowns?

  1. kaya nmn cla unplaced kc unang una sa walk nila walang buhay di marunong gumalaw sa stage… wala pa kcng nag train sa kanila nuon… saka tapus ung gown di ung gown na makakakuha ng attensiyon… saka walang angelic face sa kanila at walang fierce or stunning sa kanila maski aura ng Mu winners wala cla.. di ren exotic ung ganda nila plain beauty lang…
kaya clapper cla dapat sa binibini pa lang binubusisi na ung mga sumasali dapat ung tama at pinak deserving manalo di lang dapat matalino aanhin mo matalino qng sa top 16 palang di namakapasuk… di ba….

  2. its weather, weather lang kasi yan.. but during dat time BB send d most & d right candidates but when MU management knows how we patronized d world of beauty pageant contest dey realized they need us to get d attention of der organization through out d year.. its a marketing & politics strategies wat D MU plays in d market of beauty pageant.. And one of great contribution of dat when MISSOSOLOGY is born & dey got a free advertisement & acnowledgement of der organiztion with out any efforts.. KUDOS!!! MISSOSOLGY because of u we got attenttion by d world of organizers of beauty pageant… KEEP IT UP………

  3. Recycled gowns (cost cutting) of the colombian director (who doesn’t even speak filipino), what do you expect? Garbage!!! (pardon my adjectives…can’t help it)

  4. The gowns are really not good except for the red one. I could see Venus Raj in that dress and making it work exceptionally.

The main problem is their catwalk. I was able to watch a prelim video of Giona Cabrera, she was completely plain. There was nothing in her that would make you notice her.

The next is the beauty, except for Nina Ricci Alagao (and Zora Andam, I just like her), none of the past beauties make an impact at all.
