Toni Ann Singh of Jamaica won the prestigious Miss World crown during a festive finals night held at Excel Arena in London. Her victory marks the fourth time that Jamaica has won the Miss World title. Previous winners from the Caribbean nation includes Carole Joan Crawford in 1963, Cindy Breakspeare in 1976 and Lisa Hanna in 1993.
A women’s studies and psychology student at the Florida State University in the United States, Toni Ann Singh first secured her place among the Top 40 by winning the Talent Competition. Her rendition of Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing gained the nod of the judges and gave her an early lead in the pageant.
Finishing as her runners-up are France’s Ophély Mézino and India’s Suman Rao. Miss Brazil Elís Miele Coelho and Miss Nigeria Nyekachi Douglas meanwhile completed the Top 5. Meanwhile, making it to the Top 12 are Miss Cook Islands Tajiya Eikura Sahay, Miss Kenya Maria Wavinya, Miss Mexico Ashley Alvídrez, Miss Nepal Anushka Shrestha, Miss Philippines Michelle Dee, Miss Russia Alina Sanko and Miss Vietnam Lương Thùy Linh.
