Miss Universe Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa faces great pressure following the country’s four consecutive runners-up finishes in the Miss Universe pageant.

“The pressure will always be there, but I channel it to fuel me to become more competitive and focused,” the 27-year-old beauty from North Cotabato said in a press statement. “I don’t let the pressure get to me. The Miss Universe is a once in a lifetime event, and I hope to treasure every moment, be grateful for the experience and just showcase the beauty of the Filipina the best way I can.”

Under Binibining Pilipinas MJ took courses on personality development and cultural immersion, had Q&A practice sessions and also focsed on toning exercises at the gym.

She also got valuable insights from former beauty queens, including her best friend Shamcey Supsup.

“Shamcey told me to know myself better, to know my values and where I stand in life. It’s easy to be consumed by the competition, but knowing myself gives me confidence that allows me to shine,” MJ said.

She added that Venus Raj, Ariella Arida and Janine Tugonon advised her to just “look natural, bubbly ans show off the real me”.

  1. GOOD LUCK MJ! For the Philippines! Do not pressure yourself for the crown instead you challenge yourself and be inspired with our previous beauty queens who made it to top 5 in the previous pageant. Shine bright like a diamond in the sky!

  2. I am pretty sure that Miss Philippines will NOT be wearing the Miss Universe crown in 2015…. She does NOT have the looks, she does NOT have the sparkle, she does NOT have the personality, she does NOT have the magic…. And I agree 100% she will be a CLAPPER this year, So start practicing to clap MJ…. clap, clap, clap… She will also have a hard time competing with Thailand and India when it comes to on-line voting…

  3. Best of Luck to you MJ…Miss Universe Philippines. From your pinoy fans in the USA, we will support you 100% and pray for your success !!!

and to all insecure haters out there, cant you just support your candidate instead of trashing our candidate? Just shows you have no confidence on your own candidate.

  4. Indeed she’s pretty. Prettier than the average Filipino woman, but she won’t win. I don’t think it is always ‘my candidate’ the best in show. I knew Venezuela would be cleaning toilets backstage in the last three Miss World. And I was happy she didn’t get to the finals because you can’t always win. So why to get mad if your candidate claps? I know there wasn’t any point in defending mine. But I guess pageant fans are like religious people. They always think they’re the wight path and the others will take you to hell

  5. I dunno but I’m not that excited for MJ, not as much as I was with Venus, Shamcey & Ariella. But then again I wasn’t excited for Janine yet she was the closest to winning, so what do I know?

  6. THE OVERRATED AND OVER-HYPED HO LOST!!! TO ALL THOSE WHO THOUGHT SHE WOULD WIN..I HAVE THIS TO SAY…IN YOUR FACE, BITCHES…YOU TRANNY QUEEN CLAPPED…AND YOU DESERVED IT! MORE CLAPPERS FROM FILIPIN IN THE FUTURE..CLAP..CLAP
