Lilja Síf Pétursdóttir will be Icelands representative in this year’s Miss Universe contest which will be held in El Salvador. It is the 72nd edition of Miss Universe and the finals is set on November 18. Lilja is 19 years of age and works in a nursing home.
A total of 19 contestants vied for the crown. Helena Hafþórsdóttir O’Connor is the first runner-up while Kolfinna Mist Austfjord is the second runner-up. Dagny Ósk Garðarsdóttir and Borghildur Birta Einarsdóttir completed the Top 5.
Iceland is yet to win the Miss Universe crown. The country is ranked 38th at the Big5 Ranking and its highest placement was in 1968 when Anna Geirsdóttir finished as first runner-up to Argentina’s Norma Nolan.
