Pageant veteran Julia Gama was crowned Miss Brasil 2020 in a special ceremony held August 20.
The 27-year-old actress and model from Porto Alegre will represent Brazil in the next edition of the Miss Universe competition. She received the crown from Miss Universe Brazil 2019 Julia Horta.
Gama previously held the title of Miss World Brazil 2014. She competed in Miss World 2014 and placed in the Top 11. She is the second Brazilian woman to hold two major national titles (the first was Adriana Alves de Oliveria who was third runner-up in Miss Universe 1981 and Top 7 in Miss World 1984).
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the new Miss Brasil organization formed a committee in charge of choosing Miss Brasil 2020: Miss Brasil’s new franchise holder Winston Ling, SoulTV executive director Ricardo Godoy, journalist and Miss Brasil consultant Roberto Macedo, and filmmakers Debora Gobitta and Messina Neto.
Brazil won the Miss Universe crown twice: in 1963 (Iêda Maria Vargas) and 1968 (Martha Vasconcellos). The country currently ranks 3rd in Missosology Big5 ranking. Missosology.Org; Photos from Miss Brasil Instagram page
