The Story and People Behind the Website

What is "missosology"?

Many people had raised this question ever since. Actually, it was derived from the word missology supposedly as a field of science aimed to study beauty pageants. While the word is not in the standard dictionaries, one may think it is just apt since it is composed of the words: "miss"- a title given to unmarried women and "logos"- Greek word for "study". However, when one flips through the pages of dictionaries, the word misology exists. Although, different in spelling, the spoken form of missology and misology gives no significant distinction. Today, we are advocating to add the word "so" in the middle of the word to make the distinction possible.

Evolution of Missosology.Org

Missosology.Org was founded by Ric G. Galvez of Guimaras, Philippines in the winter of 1998. In December 2 of that year, Missosology.Org started as a small personal webpage containing essays about the Miss Universe 1994 pageant. It went alongside with a simple website for the college paper in which the founder was the Editor-in-Chief. In 1999, the internet began to gain huge popularity in the Philippines and Geocities became one of the front-runner in free homepage hosting services. Inspired by other pageant-related websites, the founder used Geocities to host a website focusing on Miss Universe beauty pageant.

In September 1999, the website was named Miss Universe Page. Among of the focus of the website were the Miss Universe 1999 pageant and the Bb. Pilipinas 2000. The website moved on covering Miss Universe 2000 where the first official "Top 10 Predictions" started. In November of 2000, the website decided to include Miss World and Miss International in its coverage. It was also in the year 2000 when the section "The Best and The Worst of the Year" was born.

In 2001, Missosology.com was born and it was supposed to move permanently to that URL. However, financial constraints blocked the move, so the Miss Universe Page, now called Missosology.Com, remained at Geocities.

By December of 2001, the website experienced problems regarding high data transfer rates. With visitors amounting to 115 a day and with a very small data transfer rate, the website became inaccessible to some in many instances.

To solve the problem, the organization sought out a new plan that requires a budget. By May 2002, a plan was drawn to "seek out potential hosts for a new website which is to be called as Missosology.Org." Also in the year 2002, the website affiliated itself with Miss Mexico website to form a Spanish version under the supervision of Arturo Su and with Miss Indonesia Unofficial to build the Bahasa version under Ronald Suwandi.

Today, Missosology.Org enjoys a functional website with a generous data transfer rate. The organization now is focusing itself to build a community of missosologists that soon will be the foundation and backbone of its existence.

Missosology had also established itself in the field of pageantry. Not only did we acquire press credentials in major beauty pageants, we also continue to garner noteworthy correspondences from several national directors, beauty pageant contestants and pageant web-surfers.

With the website's thousands of daily hits, the organization is very inspired to carry out a more updated, comprehensive & detailed pageant coverages. The website is now known for presenting features that deal with the anatomy of beauty pageants. Get into the fun of beauty pageants with Missosology!
