I was about to ignore the facebook post of Miss Pennsylvania USA Shenna Monnin post-Miss USA but after The View crew discussed it this morning, I thought I might pitch in some of my opinions about the case. First and foremost we all get all sorts of sourgraping in every pageant. I remembered my old newspaper clipping showing Abbygale Arenas smirking at the conclusion of Bb. Pilipinas 1994 because she ended only as a runner-up to Charlene Gonzales. Yes, sourgraping is unfortunately one of the human emotions and it is very much prevalent in the pageant world.
Remember how the rumours circulated that Kaiane Aldorino and Alexandria Mills have both nude photos? Kaiane was even juxtaposed to a reclined nude woman purportedly to be her. In both cases it was all a hoax and indeed a nasty form of sourgraping. As recent as 2009, a supposed stylist at Miss Universe allegedly gave his resignation letter because he thinks the pageant was fixed. Stefania Fernandez should not have won at all. Paula Shugart has to defend the organization but the controversy ended right there.
The case of Miss Pennsylvania USA Shenna Monnin’s however caused quite a stir. If something is being talked about by Joy Behar, Barbara Walters, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Sheperd alongside with Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, it must be important right? Well that’s because Donald Trump upped the ante by threatening to sue Shenna. Looks like Donald is learning a thing or two from Jenna Talackova and Gloria Allred.

Shenna did claim the pageant was rigged but it seems the real reason why she quit as Miss Pennsylvania USA is because the pageant is welcoming transgender which according to Shenna ran counter to her moral fabric. But hey, with the Jenna T case all over the news, she should know that Miss USA is now accepting transsexuals way before the pageant began, right? I don’t think this is about morality in a general sense. This is more of a case of sourgraping.
My real advice for Shenna is that she should apologize and she should not have resigned in the first place. She is currently in a no-win situation. And Trump had some spicy words for her. "It's absolutely ridiculous. She lost and if you look at her compared to the people who were in the top 15, you would understand why she's not in the top 15. It's a very, very sad situation."
Calling the pageant “thrashy” and “fraudulent” sounds more like Miss Universe Malaysia Debora Henry. Now we know it will take quite a while before Malaysia will make it to the semis of Miss Universe. Debora after all is out of reach of the American legal system but we know how Trump can be vindictive when his feelings are hurt.
But then, this is all good for Miss USA. The pageant is being talked about, yet again. More publicity, more money I guess. But if the conservative section of United States, which is by the way a very large section, gets irked by the fact that transsexuals are welcome at the pageant, there could be a chance that the tags “trashy” and “fraudulent” might gain traction. Shenna is the first sign of dissent. And Donald Trump is using his entire army to quash it right away.
Do you think that Sheena has all the right to hurl these allegations? Is she right in quitting from a pageant that run counter with her moral values?
