THE CORONATION NIGHT

Gionna Cabrera
Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2005

Gionna walked away with the Bb. Pilipinas Universe title, earning her the ticket to Bangkok, Thailand to represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe beauty pageant. Bb. Pilipinas is Gionna's first ever pageant. Just like the reigning Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins, she has also a fresh start. Without any prior pageant experience, she's a complete contrast to last year's Maricar Balagtas. Much more learned than your average beauty queen, Gionna proved that she is as much a challenge mentally as she is physically. Will Gionna break our dry spell at Miss Universe?

After minor refinements, she's ready to conquer the universe & go to the ranks of legendary Filipina beauty queens! All the Best Gionna! Break a Leg!

Precious Lara Quigaman
Bb. Pilipinas International 2005

Precious has a figure that is a perfect match to her adorable face. This Miriam Quiambao dead-ringer boasts tropical beauty & curvaceous body. Her bearing is very Filipina- she's demure, kind & spiritual. With her charisma & innate grace, Precious has very high odds of making waves at Miss International!

Congratulations Precious! PBKT & Essential Beauties Family are so proud of you!

Carlene Aguilar
Bb. Pilipinas World 2005

The Philippines will most likely continue its winning streak at Miss World after crowning a constantly refreshing binibini that never fails to look good. Her curves, mix of Filipino & Chinese looks would surely captivate the entire Sanya, China. Congratz Carlene! If Kate made it as one of the 10 finalists in 2002, Mafae as one of the top 5 finalists in 2003, Karla as Asia & Oceania's Queen of Beauty & one of the Top 5 finalists in 2004..............

JUST THINK OF WHAT CARLENE CAN DO! Can she give the Philippines its 1st ever Miss World crown? We'll see.....

Melanie Ediza
Bb. Pilipinas 2005 2nd runner-up

Let me start off by saying that "Melanie Ediza" is such a beautiful name. A complete-packaged Cebuana just like Karla Bautista, she would've been perfect for the Miss World pageant. Her top quality is her ability to handle interviews. She handled the question thrown at her during the final night with depth & apt confidence. Still, a job well-done for Melanie! Congratulations!

Wendy Valdez
Bb. Pilipinas 2005 1st runner-up
Bb. Pilipinas Tourism 2005

The 2005 Queens
Bb. Pilipinas International - Precious Lara Quigaman
Bb. Pilipinas Universe - Gionna Cabrera
Bb. Pilipinas World - Carlene Aguilar

This year's batch of Binibining Pilipinas proved that Filipinas are distinctively lovely & incredibly smart. As they sashayed in gowns & swimsuits, they left the audience awestruck. Only three winners were picked out the 23 equally spectacular beauties. The nation's new queens are Gionna Cabrera (Bb. Pilipinas Universe), Carlene Aguilar (Bb. Pilipinas World), & Precious Lara Quigaman (Bb. Pilipinas International). Wendy Valdez was adjudged 1st runner-up and was named Bb. Pilipinas Tourism. Cebu's Melanie Ediza placed as 2nd runner-up.

3 Bb. Pilipinas crowned

A NEOPHYTE, a veteran and a second-timer.

Three new queens were crowned during the glittery finals night of the Binibining Pilipinas contest at the Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.

Gionna Cabrera, a pageant rookie, won the Binibining Pilipinas-Universe title. The 22-year-old graduate of Integrated Marketing and Communications from the University of Asia and the Pacific also went home with three special awards—Miss Photogenic, Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening Gown.

The Binibining Pilipinas-World crown went to Carlene Aguilar, who was also proclaimed Miss Philippine Airlines and Binibining Avon. Aguilar was the first woman to win the Miss Earth Philippines crown in 2001 and landed in the semis of the Miss Earth pageant. She represented the city of Manila in the Miss Chinese International 2003 contest in Hong Kong where she placed third.

In 2001, Precious Lara Quigaman was one of the favorites in the Binibining Pilipinas contest that year but she went home empty-handed. This year, she was crowned Binibining Pilipinas-International. Quigaman said that after her first participation, she “grew more mature, did a lot of things and met a lot of people.”

The three bested 20 other women for the right to represent the country in the Miss Universe pageant in Thailand this May, and the Miss World and Miss International contests later this year.

Instead of the usual 10, the pageant this year had 11 semifinalists, with the extra candidate making it by virtue of having garnered the most votes cast by SMS (short messaging service) or text. Candidate No. 3 Ricamarie Ann Taylor was the lucky girl that night. She also bagged another popularity-based title: Miss Readers’ Choice.

Asked by the judges during the interview portion: “What is the most important social issue facing women today,” Cabrera replied, “How women’s rights are being trampled upon and the existing chauvinism in society. They are violated.” She cited the Taliban regime in Afghanistan as an example. Her answer drew loud applause from the audience.

Wendy Valdez was proclaimed first runner-up and bagged the special title Binibining Pilipinas-Tourism which was given by the Department of Tourism. Miss Cebu 2002 Melanie Ediza was second runner-up.

Richard Gomez shared hosting chores with Paolo Bediones and Raymond Gutierrez.
