Mea Culpa, Says Miss Vietnam Organizers
Tran Thi Thuy Dung, Miss Vietnam World 2008 will no longer be heading for Johannesburg for Miss World contest. VietNamNet Bridge reported that Chief organiser Duong Xuan Nam and Head of the Government Office’s Cultural and Social Department Chu Tien Duc held a brief press conference to announce that it was the organizers fault after allowing Tran Thi Thuy Dung to join the contest despite being a high school undergraduate. Duong Xuan Nam also exonerated the beauty queen from any wrong doing.
Nam said Tran Thi Thuy Dung didn’t violate the contest’s rules because the organisers only insisted contestants be studying at high school, not that they had to have graduated from high school. However, the Ministry of Information, Sports and Tourism who sets the eligibility standards says that the contestants should hold a high school diploma.
Vietnam is now scrambling to find a replacement delegate as the arrival of candidates to South Africa nears.
