Marelize RobbertsNamibia is a country that is a feast to the eyes. The gold and orange hues that seem to merge in its desolate and rolling desert is matched by the shimmering blue of the Atlantic that pounds the coast of this southwestern African country. The wildlife too is exotic and vibrant. No wonder that the people of Namibia, diverse yet cohesive, loves their home country. Take Marelize Robberts for example. A white Namibian, she is proud of her nation and its natural beauty and she is willing to show it off when the time comes that she will represent her country at Miss World 2008.More...

Tamara Almeida SilvaBrazil is a country famed for its carnival and soccer. But its more than that as Tamara Almeida Silva, Miss Mundo Brasil 2008 insists. Of course, Brazil is a large country occupying almost half of the South American continent. The deep tropical Amazon forest teeming with diverse wildlife is in contrast with the temperate south that now boasts a burgeoning wine industry. And while there are tribes that are allegedly untouched by civilization in the western part of the country, the eastern coast on the other hand is dotted by cosmopolitan cities like Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo. Obviously, Tamara was spot on in saying that her country is "a land rich in culture, natural beauties, and history". More...

Christina Trejo Christina Trejo will be representing a small island at Miss World 2008. Well, 193 km² small to be exact. Aruba may be just a speck in the Caribbean for some but it is the home of exotic beauties (Think about Zizi Lee). The country's exotic population is the result of Spanish, British and Dutch colonization of the island. Today, Aruba boasts a reliable sunny weather that tourists love. Politically, it is still a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but it is asserting its own identity, has its own currency, an independent postal service and a constitution. Attempts to be fully independent from the Netherlands were recently aborted and the Dutch monarch remains the country's head of state. More...

Geisha Nathalie Montes de Oca As the site of first permanent European settlement in the Americas, Dominican Republic is a crossroad of civilizations. This is probably the reason why the delegates of Dominican Republic in international beauty pageants exude diversity. The country occupies the eastern part of the island of Hispaniola (the other half is occupied by Haiti). The country has the largest economy in the Caribbean region and its democratic institutions are relatively stable. Baseball is the most popular sport in the country. Basketball is on the far second. The country is proud of its sportsmen and women but it is equally proud of its beauties. Geisha is now one of the talked about beauty queen in Dominican Republic. More...

Leyla Lydia Tugutlu Turkey stands alone as a symbolic nation where one can truly say that Islam can exist within a democracy. Turkey is proud of its secular society spearheaded by the Father of the Turks a.k.a. Ataturk. It is a nation of devout Muslims but where Jews and Christians lived for centuries unharmed. Turkey's history is rich. It's a land where armies from Greek, Persian, Macedonian, and British empires marched. Today, it is one of the popular tourist destinations thanks to its grand mosques, prestine beaches and bargain prices. Turkey is also a nation of beautiful women. Remember Azra Akin? Martha Fenech Malta is a small country but its strategic location makes it a crossroad of civilizations. Sicilians, Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines and Greeks all landed in Malta. The word Malta could either be from a Greek word for honey or the from the Phoenician word meaning haven. A honey or a haven, Malta's intrinsic beauty is world renowned and tourist flock here. It consists of 7 beautiful islands dotted with churches and beautiful beaches. Roman Catholicism is strong here and it was mentioned in the Bible that St. Paul was once shipwrecked in Malta. During World War II, the island witnessed heavy bombardment from the Germans but never surrendered. Today, the Maltese flag bears the George Cross awarded by the then King George VI to all the citizens of Malta for valor. Martha Fenech, 18, will represent still small but brave island at Miss World 2008. More...

Carmen Kool What comes into your mind when you heard the word "Netherlands"? Ah, that should be windmills or perhaps cheese or Van Gogh or the uberliberal and tolerant attitude. But there is more about Netherlands than these things. For example, not so many people would associate it as the home of the International Court of Justice.

This year, The Netherlands will be represented at Miss World by the beautiful Carmen Kool. It was a long time since her country earned the title but she will do her best to win it. Check her interview and you will see a confident Carmen who believes that she has all the qualities needed to win the Miss World 2008 title. More...

Patricia Rodriguez Spain is a kingdom rich in history and surprisingly for the many it is actually composed of various "nations". In the northeast, the Catalans speak a language similar to - but not mutually comprehensible to - Spanish. In the northwest, the Galicians find more affinity with Portuguese and play bagpipes like the Scots and Bretons do. In the north, the Basques consider themselves as a totally different race with a distinct language. Down south, the Andalusians speak Spanish alright but with a different accent from the Spanish spoken by the Castillians in central Spain. Geographically speaking, Spain is also home of extreme contrasts. In Tenerife for example, you will get a balmy weather and enjoy the beach but in Boí-Taüll in the Pyrenees, snow can be several feet deep and is one of the ski resorts in Spain. The country is a popular tourist destination mainly famous for its beach life. The vibrancy and diversity of Spain will be embodied by Patricia Rodriguez, Miss Spain World 2008, in Johannesburg in the coming months. She was from Tenerife and she is one of Missosology.Org’s favorite to clinch the Miss World 2008 crown. More...

Lene Egeli Norway is a country famed for its fjords, of Scandinavian socialism and tolerance, and - history-wise - the fierce Vikings. Today, the country is slowly changing demographically to the extent that now it can be considered as multi-cultural. The Norwegian history, culture and arts however remain distinct. It is the first modern European country to declare independence. It is, in paper at least, a kingdom but its royals act like everyday people. Norwegians today are probably the richest in the world. Although they endure high cost of living, they have one of the lowest unemployment rate in the world, enjoy generous social benefits and the salary gap is one of the smallest in the world. Lene Egeli, Miss Norway World, takes pride of being Norway's representative to Miss World 2008. She is also one of our Hot Picks in Week No. 5 making her one of the delegates to watch. More...

And this year, we welcome the new Miss Barbados World, Natalie Olivia Griffith, as she reveals her beautiful country and herself…More...

Edita Krešakova This year’s Miss Slovakia World shared some interesting facts about this beautiful country, Slovakia. Slovakia has so much to offer tourists, yet remains one of the least well known holiday destinations in Europe. Most of Slovakia is traversed by the Carpathian Mts., including the Tatra and the Beskids. Gerlachovka (8,737 ft/2,663 m) in the High Tatra, is the highest peak. S Slovakia is a part of the Little Alföld, a plain. Its fertile soil is drained by the Danube and its tributaries, notably the Váh. Several of its rivers have been dammed for hydroelectric power. Major cities include Bratislava and Komárno, which are the major Danubian ports; and Košice, Trnava, and Nitra.…More...

Jennifer Palm Lundberg Sweden’s days as a warlike nation are long gone. It is now the birthplace of the Nobel Peace Prize. Travellers today are more likely to be slayed by visions of pastoral beauty - intense green countryside, impenetrable forests, little red cottages atop remote islands and, everywhere, Sweden’s famously clear blue water. One of it’s significant municipality is Sigtuna. Sigtuna is a city in the Uppland part of Stockholm County, central Sweden. It has a population of 7,000 and is the namesake of Sigtuna Municipality, even though the seat is in Märsta with 23,000 inhabitants. And what makes Sigtuna more significant is because it is where Miss Sweden World 2008 delegate comes from…More...
