There is something about the beauties from Dominican Republic. They are simply mesmerizing, awesome, charming, head-turners...we'll ran out of adjectives here! Mariasela Álvarez won the Miss World crown for the island republic in 1982 and unfortunately the second one is yet to come. But there is a resurgence of the power of Dominican beauties in recent years and this bodes well for Geisha Nathalie Montes de Oca. She will be the stunning representative of her equally beautiful island nation. She's getting more popular in her country and why not? She's a strong Miss World contender!
I consider myself as a sweet, creative person, cheerful, affectionate and very sensible whenever I see the problems of other people. I dedicate a lot of time to my family and I really enjoy the company of my friends. I was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in April 21, 1987. With my two brothers we formed a family of five. I am not a liberal girl and I feel proud of the things that I do in my life.
I wake up early every day and do my exercises. When I return home, I take my breakfast and read the newspaper with my father and we usually exchange comments with regards to the latest news.
My favorite hobbies are swimming, dancing and watching rented movies with my entire family.
I believe that my style is classic and youthful. I am conservative with my clothes. I wear jeans, blouses or shirts generally in warm colors, like orange (my favorite) and pastel colors like rose or light green, but always on high heels. But I admit that I love the evening gowns and cocktail dresses, because they are beautiful and make me feel like a princess whenever I wear them.
The best secret that I would like to share is to be in perfect state of health by eating right and exercising your body everyday. This helps to have a healthy skin, shiny hair and a good mental health. In addition, you can reduce the risk of contacting some diseases because your body is stronger.
My routine secret is to take two glasses of water when I wake up in the morning. It purifies my entire system in addition to that, it keeps my skin hydrated and radiant.
Several castings were made to select all the delegates. Then, we had a meeting with the Miss World Dominican Republic Organization where they announced the complete agenda for a full month of training. The agenda consisted classes given by professionals. Each would evaluate the potentials of the candidates in several categories: gym, oration, catwalk, etiquette, make-up, photography, nutrition and human relations.
The final show had a beautiful opening with the delegates in swimsuit and later each delegate was presented individually during the swimsuit competition. All the delegates also made the final walk in their evening gowns. The five finalists were selected and the judges evaluated the delegates according to the answers given during the final question. Finally, only two girls were left. One was selected as the first finalist and the other one the Dominican winner of Miss World.
I think that many of my qualities as a human being will help win the Miss World crown. I am a very sensitive and supportive person, who really enjoys and celebrates everything in life surrounded by all the people that I love. I consider myself very responsible. Everything that I do in life has a great value and importance. I wish to work arduously with my heart in benefit of those who need personal and social assistance.
In September 1998, somebody played a dirty joke to Dominican Republic, notifying that a tidal wave is approaching the island. I remembered seeing a documentary in television and then I remember one of them who said “tidal waves are unpredictable”. But how can a 10-year old be so sure which information is true?
That day there was no electricity and it was when we received the call of “emergency” on the phone. “A tidal wave is approaching!” people warned and a lot of families start to run and left their homes. With lots of confusion in mind I took my Dalmatian puppy named “Majarie” and left the house quickly. It was very hard for me especially since I was imagining that a giant wave can cover the entire island. That night every family has a different story to tell and whenever I remember that moment I can’t help but to laugh. .
I respect what other people think, but I will say to them that they are wrong. Every year, girls that undergo great preparation, be it physical or intellectual, joins beauty pageants. Beauty pageants show the classic beauty of women: a perfect balance between the form and perfect proportions of the feminine body, as well to show the advances of women in fields like university studies and great success in professional areas.
Like I mentioned earlier, I consider myself as a creative person. I believe that I have three qualities that best define my personality: honest, discreet and hard worker. I am a family person. It fascinates me when I stay home and share good and nice moments with the people I love.
I always think that is better to be a “fountain and not a drainage” [fuente y no desagüe]. It means that whatever the situation is, I always try to be positive, friendly and generous. I don’t like to criticize or to offend others; instead I enjoy giving love.
I’m sending warm greetings from the Dominican Republic to all the fans, beauty experts and visitors of the web page. Thanks for making beauty pageants an “essential science” for the whole world [laughs] and most importantly, thanks to all for the great support. It gives us the energy to become the best ambassadors of our own countries.
Special thanks to Yahel Ortega Mora for facilitating the interview and great photos of Geisha Nathalie!
