The moment she was crowned as Miss Bahamas World, Tinnyse Jamel Johnson grabbed the attention of the pageant watchers. She was immediately listed in Missosology.Org's Hot Picks for her charm, beauty and intelligence. Tinnyse is trying to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the College of the Bahamas but for the moment she is shifting her focus on Miss World contest. Will she bring Bahamas the ultimate accolade? Perhaps by learning a thing or two about her will help us assess her prospects. Here, Missosology.Org interviews the beautiful and smart Miss Bahamas- World, Tinnyse Johnson.
I am a free spirited, compassionate Bahamian woman whom loves meeting people from all walks of life. I grew up in Nassau, Bahamas in a very close, comedic family of seven. In the little spare time that I have, I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen and creating unique dishes. I also love swimming in the beautiful waters of my beloved Bahamas.
Hmmmmm…. I guess like my personality, my fashion style is complex! [Laughs] It all depends on what duties I have to perform, but at any given time my look can be professional, or classic, or sexy, or trendy. I try to reflect my free spirit in my wardrobe, so you may find one or two “unique” items as well..
Lots of water, lots of sleep, but most importantly embracing who I am from within.
This year’s Miss Bahamas World pageant was a blast! Our training and grooming process lasted for three months followed by a month of activities and preliminary competitions - portions of which were filmed for a television show. For the first time in the Bahamas, we contestants were the subject of a reality TV Show called Miss Bahamas World Backstage Pass. Each week during the month leading up to the pageant, the television audience in the Bahamas got to see us compete on various levels, and they were able to get more of an insight into who we really are as individuals. There were also a number of preliminary competitions and fast track events like Swimsuit, Top Model, Evening gown and Talent as well as the People’s Choice text vote. It all culminated with the Grand Coronation on June 29th. Throughout the process, I kept in mind that I was always being judged from the moment I was accepted as a Miss Bahamas World contestant. We learned to love and be ourselves, and we were also taught the importance of self evaluation with a view to improvement. Perhaps most important though, was the way in which we were all challenged to become beauties with a purpose. It was truly a life changing experience.
Well, my physical beauty is one thing but I realize that it will not nearly be enough as there are so many incredibly beautiful women competing in this year’s pageant. I think even more important than the external is what’s inside of me that will make a difference. First of all, I am genuine and real – what you see if what you get! I am a people’s person, and I am passionate about using whatever tools God has given me to make a difference in the world. I believe that often persons look at all of the problems in the world with dismay, and think to themselves that all hope is lost. However, if we all woke up each morning with the resolve to change just one thing, imagine what a different place the world would be! I am dedicated to doing my part in that process. I believe we were each born for a specific purpose that only we can accomplish. I intend going to my grave having accomplished that purpose. I would greatly accept every challenge the Miss World title brings as I continue on the journey of living a purpose driven life.
I was learning the art of bone fishing (also known as fly fishing) with my grandfather at age nine. During the lesson we were suddenly surrounded by several stingrays and I became very afraid. My grandfather quickly scooped me up into his arms and put me on his shoulders saying “Don’t worry pumpkin, Grandpa Charlie gat ya!”, but to my amazement he remained in the water without being stung! I thought he was invincible until I realized that he was wearing thick water boots! [Laughs] We arrived safely back home and enjoyed eating the delicious fish we caught while telling everyone about the experience.
Will empowering women ever be outdated? I think that persons who make such a statement are those looking from the outside in who have no idea of the impact competing in pageants has on women. All they see is the final night, but they don’t have an appreciation for the process to get there. My experience in Miss Bahamas World has been one of self discovering, maturity, and direction. My life has changed for the better as a result and I will be forever grateful for the experience.
Someone once said The Bahamas is so beautiful because it’s where God lives! Whether or not this is true, God has certainly blessed us with amazing natural beauty that is second to none. The Bahamas is made up of 700 islands and cays that form a 100,000 square mile archipelago extending over 500 miles of the clearest water in the world, so there is an experience to discover for everyone no matter what your preference. The Bahamas has the world's third longest barrier reef so it’s a diver’s haven. Each island has its own diversity, culture and flavor… and even its own accent! However, our greatest asset is not the sun, sand or sea – they are merely perimeters of our islands. At the core of our islands you’ll find a big heart, open arms, and warm smiles from some of the friendliest people in the world!
It is quite simple: time doesn’t linger nor does it yield for anyone. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed and yesterday is gone, so all we have is today. We should use it wisely and live each day as if it was our last.
Hello world! I am yours truly Miss Bahamas World 2008/09 and my message to you is hold onto your dreams no matter how impossible or bizarre they may seem to others. Remember your destiny and purpose depends on you! Thanks for all your love and support!
