Miss Thailand World Kanokkorn Jaichuen could become the first East Asian woman to win the Miss World crown. This is a task that Kanokkorn takes seriously. Thailand have done well lately at major pageants like Miss Universe and Thai fans are crossing their fingers that Lady Luck will be with them at Miss World too! With a distinctly amiable Asian smile, Kanokkorn may actually have a good shot for the crown!

Describe the village or place where you grew up?

I was born in Bangkok which is a capital city of Thailand. My home town called “Don Muang” which is also the name of our international airport located at the outskirts of Bangkok.

How would you describe yourself to the world?

My family including myself have good hearts. We love to help under-privileged people. We also have compassion towards animals. I love to smile which is a symbol of our country, Thailand.

What are the good things about Thailand that you wish the world to know?

There several good things about Thailand, such as kindheartedness and people who always wear a smile, our culture & beautiful language, our natural and tourist attractions and many more. But above of all these things, we are proud of our Great King Bhumipol and his family. They have done a lot of good things for the country for more than 60 years. There is one thing which my family and myself adore and we use it as a guideline on our day-to-day lives. This is called self-sufficiency principle which helps us survive in the real world.

Did you always dream to become Miss Thailand or did you have some other ambitions as a child ?

Definitely, I had a dream to become Miss Thailand World one day. I kept watching almost all beauty contests since I was young. I used to participate in several beauty contests where I usually win. One day, I had a chance to join this year’s Miss Thailand World 2007 contest and I eventually got the title.

Describe the selection process during your national pageant?

The concept of Miss Thailand World contest this year is based on Beauty with a purpose in a self-sufficient way. Among of those 300 contestants, 30 finalists were selected and joined a camp in the province of Nong Kai located in the North-Eastern part of Thailand. We have learned a lot of things which include rice cultivation, food & dessert preparation using the Thai way, etc. We had a chance to visit Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar for swimwear shooting.

The final round was organized in Bangkok on the night of September 4th. We appeared in cocktail dress and 10 finalists were announced. After that, five finalists were selected and later we were judged through a single question. Finally, the winner was announced where my name “ Kanokkorn Jaichuen” was called as Miss Thailand World 2007. That eventually became the finale of that memorable night.

Name a beauty queen that you had always admired and wish to emulate.

Princess Diana of Wales. She is graceful and she had a good heart. She behaved well as a princess and as a mom of 2 kids. She devoted herself to children, the poor and underprivileged people but not only in Britain but also outside her country too.

How would you define beauty?

Beauty from within lasts longer. We are lucky if we have both beauties from within and outside and making use of our beauty in a very productive way.

At any given moment, what would your handbag contain?

Just any other women’s handbag, there are stuffs like cosmetics, diary, camera, mobile phone and etc. But one thing which I have to keep it with me all the time is the Buddha amulet from my dad. It helps building-up my confidence and good luck.

How would you see yourself someday-a family-oriented wife or a career woman?

Definitely, a perfect wife and a mom like my family is having now. Good family is the best fundamental unit for our society. Before achieving that status, I have to be a career woman first.

Thailand has been doing well lately at major pageants. Do you think that your country will finally have a Miss World?

Why not? Apart from our natural beauty, Thai women now are well-grown and educated. Thailand has been known to the world in many good ways and why not a Miss Thailand World as Miss World one day?
