Lately, Canadians has been enthralling
beauty pageant fans from around the world with their stunning looks, great
body and witty answers. They might not be a beauty superpower but this country
is getting back into the right track. This year expect to be beguiled by Sara
Ghulam. Raised in the city, Sara exudes beauty and intelligence with
ambitious vision. She is also proud of her multicultural country as she
herself is a product of various cultures and races.

Describe the village or place where you grew up?
I was born and raised in a small building at the heart of
Scarborough, a lower middle class area. Growing up, it was the absolute best
place to be. I had the public transit right outside my door and the train
only a minute away. I was as close as I wanted to be to everything. Much of
my summer days were spent at the "cage" (which is what we called
the basketball court) supporting my brother's dreams. Now that I'm older, I
see how ironic it is to see both determination and failure collected in the
same space. I think this has helped to keep me on track and forced me to be
determined to make something of myself; I want to add value to the world. The
community I grew up in was very tight-knitted and everyone looked out for
each other. I'm a strong believer that the people are what make a
neighborhood good, not its appearance or its reputation. I am proud of where
I came from because it is has shaped me into the person that I am today, and
has set the foundation for me for my future.
How would you
describe yourself to the world?
I am a very
down to earth person and in tune with reality, though I can be a big dreamer.
A significant thing about me is that I not only dream, but I am determined to
work hard to make them come true. I realize that in order achieve anything;
it entails hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. Though obstacles may come in
the way, I am a very driven and determined individual who works hard to
achieve my goals. I am also a very genuine and kind hearted person. I love to
give of myself, my time, my singing, whatever I can to make someone else's
day brighter. I love children, and my family is very dear to my heart.
Lastly, I love to laugh and make others laugh. I am a person who truly
appreciates the small things in life because it is those things that make all
the difference.
.
Did you always dream to become Miss Canada or did you have some other
ambitions as a child?
As a child,
I always looked forward to watching beauty pageants. However, I never dreamt
that I would ever participate in one. My lifelong dream is to become a singer
and a song writer. In my mind I am already one, though I haven't brought
forth my talent to the world. This is an upcoming task of mine to achieve and
will remain my ambition until I do so.
Describe
the selection process during your national pageant.
The selection process was a huge growing experience for me. I matured from a
teen to a young lady within a few days. From, interviews, screenings,
catwalk, talent competition. I felt very honored to be given the opportunity
to compete as not everyone can have this chance. I felt that during the week
of the pageant, I had to remain focused, be myself and if it was for me then
I would have it. I knew that any of the young women there could have taken
the crown. Instead of dwelling on their strong points, I appreciated them and
worked on letting my strengths shine. I knew the outcome was out of my hands,
and that I could only control the amount of work and effort that was put
forth in order to succeed. I must say I had a blast as I had the chance of
meeting so many wonderful ladies from across Canada. I wouldn't trade this
experience for the world, as it is something that I will always remember and
cherish dearly.
Name a beauty queen that you had
always admired and wish to emulate.
There is one particular beauty queen who has always stood out to me. It is
Nazanin Afshin-Jam, who is a former Miss World Canada. I felt that she really
utilized her title to benefit others. She not only talked the talk, but she
walked the walk and because of that I respect her greatly. I think she is a
great role model not only to young women, but to everyone. She proved that if
you have an objective and put your body, mind and soul towards it, you can
accomplish anything, no matter how impossible it may appear to be. I admire
her so much for her strength and her will to do the right thing.
What are the advantages of a
multicultural society like your country?
I think that a
multicultural society like my own really enables you to be yourself. I feel
so comfortable and at ease living here. My own heritage comes from four
distinct nationalities, which is quite the norm in Canada. The people are quite
accepting and open minded to differences. I love the fact that you can
interact and experience so many different cultures and ethnicities right in
your own backyard. People are free to make life choices as they please
without fear of being persecuted for standing or sticking out. I also think
that a multicultural society can reduce ignorance and prejudice because
people are able to learn about one another. In Canada, our differences do not
divide us, they define us.
At any given moment, what would your handbag contain?
To be honest, I rarely carry just a handbag as I usually have a huge duffle
bag that almost appears to be a suitcase. The most basic items that my bag
would contain is a cell phone, keys, money, water bottles, lip gloss,
eyeliner, eye drops, mp3 player along with a notebook and a pen. But on
occasions you can find anywhere from heels, jewelry, batteries, face cream,
tooth brush, and sometimes even a change of clothes! I like to be prepared
for any possible surprises, especially when I am traveling from place to
place.
.
How would you see
yourself someday - a family-oriented wife or a career woman?
I have
always dreamt of getting married as well as having a family of my own. On the
other hand I don't think I could live life without attending to my ambitions.
I would like to be able to balance both family life as well as a successful
career. I love children and I wouldn't give up the opportunity of raising my
child for the world, however I am very driven and yearn to stay productive. I
would love and be extremely blessed to have the best of both worlds.
Lastly, what is your message to
Missosology.Org website visitors?
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to be heard. I appreciate the
support and I hope to make my country proud at Miss World 2007. My advice to
everyone is to always believe in yourself, and your dreams, even when the
circumstances may seem dim. Sometimes just a little grain of hope is all you
need to keep moving on. If you let yourself stand still, whilst the world is
moving forward, then you are simply moving backwards. You can have anything
in the world once you put your mind to it. It is your task to make your
dreams a living truth, so start now!

Good luck to Sara from Missosology.Org! Special
thanks to Rana Lee of Miss Canada World.
