Beauty Talks :: Miss Universe Turkey 2012 Çağıl Özge Özkul

Born on September 27, 1988, Çağıl Özge Özkul will represent Turkey at Miss Universe 2012. She knows Turkish, English and took Intermediate Spanish at a University. She graduated from the Department of Economics (as first degree) and is a model, presenter-speaker, and an actress. She is also a professional volleyball player. Çağıl spoke with Missosology in this exclusive interview.

1. Who do you think is the sexiest man alive?

I think Christian Bale is the sexiest man alive because of his impressive voice, his way of acting & talking and surely his good-looking physical appearance. He is a BATMAN actually, sure he is the sexiest. Also we know that from his movies, he can lose or gain weight in a level that we want to see him.

2. If there were no rules in your life for one day and you could be outrageous, what would you do?

I would raise a laugh suddenly in everywhere. Without rhyme and reason, I would laugh loudly in every place that there are no matter to laugh, I would laugh more loudly in every serious place. If I saw sad people in the street, I would laugh to their faces.  If there is an argument in parliament, suddenly I would enter there and laugh loudly. The best way to make people happy and the best way to put a smile on their faces is laughing. Laughing creates a continuous reaction and everybody smiles because of this reaction that’s why I would be laughing in everywhere.

3. What is the most difficult thing you did to prepare for the Miss Universe pageant? Why did you do that?

The morale preparation process of Miss Universe is the most difficult side of my preparation. The thought of being on a stage to present your country, to present your all beauty to millions of people requires full of self confidence. I believe mostly in my self confidence. In addition, the sport programme about “core training” that I follow 3-4 times a week is one of the most difficult things to prepare for this pageant. I  have been doing professional sport when I was 10 years old; but for the pageant, it requires more dedicated efforts.

4. What has been the biggest disappointment in your life? Why?

I have not had so many disappointment in my life except the death of my close friend from the university. Getting over this period was very difficult and it showed me that life is not so long that we think as in our daily lives.

5. If you were given 1 million dollars how would you spend it in just one day?

There is a huge population who needs only 5$ in a day to keep the pot boiling, so spending a million dollars in just one day is the easiest thing in the world. You would see a girl on the street, throws away her money to the air, to everywhere.

6. What does loving a boyfriend mean to you?

It means to me that loving a boyfriend is supporting him for his whole life. Every man needs to be supported tenderly by a woman. This support makes the love bigger and bigger. Sharing things and good or bad experiences strengthen the love. Loving each other means growing with each other, listening to music louder with each other… Being happier than him for the thing which makes him happy. I can explain what loving a boyfriend means to me with a line from the great poem of E.E. Cummings “I carry your heart, I carry it in my heart…” So; Loving a boyfriend means to me carrying his heart, carrying it in my heart…

7. Any beauty secrets that you would like to share the readers of Missosology?

I think the beauty is about the aura that you have and if you want that the people can feel this aura, you should definitely start a day with a positive way. Waking up with a smile provides an energic day for you. This energy passes to the people’s perception. The beauty is not enough; you have to show your beauty to the world, this is the key thing. Walking style, talking style, wearing clothes that suit for you, being soigne, relating people in a wellspoken and sociable way… These are the key things that help you to show your beauty. The beautiful woman should be as the shining sun for the environment.

8. Tell us about the most beautiful place in your country?

My country, Turkey, is one of the best countries that you should really come and visit all the sides. For centuries, this land has hosted so many civilizations. So the people from all religions and all cultures has lived in this land and they left their heritage about their ancient historical structure to the places of our country; as churches, mosques, palaces, etc. In addion to these historical sides, we have unbelievably amazing natural beauties.

I think Istanbul is one of the best cities in the world because it is like a meeting point of history and modern times. You can see the mosques, churches, ruins and remains of old civilizations behind the beautiful scene of the Bosphorus. The city connects Asia and Europe, that is why we can find all the cultures in the city’s daily lives. Just imagine this contrast and do not miss the opportunity of catching this kind of beauty before the world destroys such things.

9. Tell us about your mantra or secret to success.

I have always been a successful person in every part of my life; I played volleyball professionally in Super League, I graduated from the university as first of University’s top scorers, I am a popular model for 5 years. My main mantra for these successes is the thought that “Finish what you have started with a best result and work for it”. The power is inside us, the only things we need are the aim, dicipline, resolution, self-development and pure mind. The two key words also important; “ Amor Fati”, which means “love of your fate”. I say yes to life with all its pain and its joy; it does not mean staying passive toward the consequences of life, but rather taking on the challenges that life present us.

10. When was the last time you cried? Why?

The last time I cried during the celebration of the Republic Day of Turkey. This day is very important because the modern state of Turkey was born. Republic Day marks the creation of the Turkish Republic in October 29, 1923. Our leader in the Turkish War of Independence, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, became the our first president on the same day. According to Atatürk, Republic Day is Turkey’s most important holiday. So, we celebrate this day with enthusiasm in our heart. We sing torch songs, marching musics. This year, we, thousands of people, walked for kilometres and we finished this walk in Anıtkabir, Atatürk’s mausoleum. I cried when I see these thousands in Anıtkabir for this celebration, and I was there proudly.

 11. What do you like to do for fun with your friends?

The most entertaining activity that I love so much is watching sporting events especially football matches on TV or sometimes on the stadium with my friends. Also we frequently meet for the “cinema activity” and we watch all the new films. We usually play cards for fun.

12. Miss Universe Organization now allows transgenders to compete in their pageant system, what’s your take on this?

From my point of view, it is so normal to allow transgenders to compete in this pageant system. One of the transgender candidate can be the most beautiful person in the universe. The beauty is not about the person’s old gender. If any transgender has an elegance style in every way, if she has the wanted beauty, why can’t she be the next Miss Universe? I am very happy to see that they could have this right at last.

13. What would you say to someone who thinks you’re not qualified or pretty enough to represent your country in Miss Universe?

Firstly, I would say that winning approval or being appreciated from all people about every side of you is not possible. Some people like brunette girls, some people like blonde ones; some of them likes pretty women while the others are telling being sexy is more necessary. Somebody give more importance to walking style of the woman, some people see a well-behaved woman as a most beautiful. Therefore, the beauty is about completeness; the important thing is providing this unity. If you can reach this unity, you can present your country in a best way. There is no limit of being beautiful. There is always a more beautiful girl in somewhere in the world. I noticed this unity a long time ago and I am trying to achieve it; I believe in myself about this kind of features, I believe in myself for presenting my country with our culture, our traditions and surely with my beauty not only from the outside, but also from the inside. J At this point, I am waiting for their great support also from who they do not like me so much because I know that they can find a lot of things to love about me if they can be without prejudice. I am qualified and pretty enough to present my country.

14. What qualities do you feel you have that would make you a great Miss Universe?

I feel that I could be a great Miss Universe thanks to my aura and my light. I always have a positive energy and I can spread this energy to everyone. My relationships with people is so good, this is the best feature of mine. My smiley face and my smiley eyes can turn the lights on in every places.

Also I would be a great Miss Universe because of my sensitive characteristic feature about the world’s problems. If I could be Miss Universe, my life would change suddenly because from that point, I could be doing anything for the goodness of the world and the universe, I could make my dreams for the world come true. I would be a great Miss Universe because I am the right person that every women and also every man can take me as their role-model.
