What We Liked

Love her smile. This girl is confident when she smiles.

When Ines Ligron left MUJ, Japan was never the same. The country lost its luster and time and again we saw Japanese delegates being ignored at Miss Universe. We began to ask: where are the designers? Where are the advertisers? Why is nobody ready? As if it is indeed the signs of the times, Ayako Hara was crowned Miss Universe Japan. I see her as a non-conventional Japanese beauty that does not abide by the conservative social mores of Japan. She can easily beat Riyo Mori but it is doubtful that she will be able to repeat her predecessor’s triumph. For Ayako to shine, she needs lots of luck and do that Ligron thing where fashion is meant to shock and gowns are inspired by bathroom curtains. If the new management of MUJ can do that, Ayako might improve her chances.
