Ah yes…politics and beauty pageants do indeed merge somewhere, somehow. After all, Missosology.Org’s credo Analyzing Beauty Pageants, has politics in its cornerstone. Let’s turn our focus this time around to a small European kingdom in which many people think it shouldn’t exist in the first place. Belgium may pride itself as the heart of Europe and its capital capital, Brussels, boasts to be as the capital of Europe, but it is deeply divided. The regions of Flanders and Wallonia exist as unified Belgium but the linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences between the two puts them to be at odds with each other.

Enter Miss Belgium 2010 Cilou Annys. She posed in a magazine cover together with Flemish separatist Bart de Wever trampling the Belgian flag while the latter is on the verge of cutting her sash. Flemish separatism had been a divisive issue for years. The separatists accuse the Wallons of mainly relying on the federal money collected largely from the richer and more industrialized Flanders region. The Flemish separatists wanted to bolt out from the union to put where their money truly belongs.
Eager to diffuse the tension after she was called to resign, Cilou went on to take the challenge of a Waloon radio station to trample image of Bart de Wever and a Flemish separatist poster while putting the Belgian flag on her shoulder. See the You Tube video below.
