Ah yes…politics and beauty pageants do indeed merge somewhere, somehow. After all, Missosology.Org’s credo Analyzing Beauty Pageants, has politics in its cornerstone. Let’s turn our focus this time around to a small European kingdom in which many people think it shouldn’t exist in the first place. Belgium may pride itself as the heart of Europe and its capital capital, Brussels, boasts to be as the capital of Europe, but it is deeply divided. The regions of Flanders and Wallonia exist as unified Belgium but the linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences between the two puts them to be at odds with each other.

Enter Miss Belgium 2010 Cilou Annys. She posed in a magazine cover together with Flemish separatist Bart de Wever trampling the Belgian flag while the latter is on the verge of cutting her sash. Flemish separatism had been a divisive issue for years. The separatists accuse the Wallons of mainly relying on the federal money collected largely from the richer and more industrialized Flanders region. The Flemish separatists wanted to bolt out from the union to put where their money truly belongs.
Eager to diffuse the tension after she was called to resign, Cilou went on to take the challenge of a Waloon radio station to trample image of Bart de Wever and a Flemish separatist poster while putting the Belgian flag on her shoulder. See the You Tube video below.

Viivi Pumpanen wins Miss Suomi 2010 Title
The new Miss Suomi (Miss Finland) is Viivi Pumpanen who hails from Vantaa. She is 21 years old and stand 5 feet and 5 inches. She is the shortest delegate in the contest participated by 10 other finalists. Shortly after her crowning, Viivi was interviewed by MTV3 and said that she will work hard to preserve the integrity of the Miss Suomi title. Finland is the first ever country to win the Miss Universe crown.
Viivi was crowned by the outgoing Miss Suomi Eesi Poysti. Anne Nurmisen finished as first runner-up while the press favorite Susanna Turja is the second runner-up.
Cilou Annys was crowned Miss Belgium 2010 last Sunday, January 10, in an event held in Casino van Knokke . The 18 year old brunette and native of Bruge, was a clear favorite to succeed last year’s winner Zeynep Sever.
Cilou represented the region of West Flanders and she is studying to become a translator of both French and English languages. The visibly please newly-crowned queen was flanked by Lien Aernouts and Binta Telemans, the first and second runner-ups respectively.
Cilou is the second beauty queen from Bruges to win the Belgium title. Stéphanie Meire is the first woman from Bruge to win the Miss Belgium title in 1993.
Cilou will represent Belgium at Miss Universe 2010 and Miss World 2010 contests.
