Rwanda’s ‘beauty with a purpose’ pageant returns with a new crown. Aurore Mutesi Kayibanda from the Southern Province was crowned Miss Rwanda 2012 last Saturday night at the Gikondo Expo Grounds. 14 other contestants vied for the crown. Natacha Uwamahoro was the first runner-up and Ariane Murerwa, second runner-up. Kayibanda is a first year Political Science students at the national University of Rwanda. Miss Rwanda 2012 theme was “Beauty with a Purpose, with a Vision”. The Miss Rwanda event itself went missing for three years because of lack of sponsorship because the main sponsors, Rwandatel, had been forced out of business after suffering legal problems. Now, Rwanda finally has a new representative after Grace Bahati in 2009. Kayibanda will represent Rwanda in the next edition of Miss World.
