They say you can tell a lot about a person by the way she or he flies. Well, for the contestants of Miss World 2012, the choice of airline could tell something about a beauty queen. But for many of the girls, the choice is limited as to which airline is sponsoring the national pageant.

Miss World New Zealand Collette Lachore looks fabulous with a hint of Oxana Federova-ish vibes written all over her. She definitely improved a lot and her chances just shot up in our meter. Her choice of airline? Qantas! It's the national carrier of Australia and is ranked as one of the Top 10 airlines in the world. It is interesting that Collette skipped Air New Zealand and opt for the rival airline from a rival country. But this choice is perhaps more about sponsorship and practicality. Qantas flies more frequently to China than Air NZ. Interestingly, last year's Miss World NZ Mianette Broekman flew to London for MW11 on Air NZ via Los Angeles.

Choosing a rival airline from a rival country is not something novel. Miss Belgium Laura Beyne used the Dutch airline KLM instead of the Belgian own airline Brussels Airlines. The reason, KLM flies to Beijing but not Brussels Airlines.

Practicality should indeed trump over nationalism when it comes to the choice of airline. Miss Dominican Republic World Saly Tejada picked American Airlines because no airline from her country flies to China. But one can see how the choice airline reflects the ability of a National Organization to support its delegate. Miss Gibraltar World Jessica Baldachino chose the El Cheapo airline called BMI Baby. How she will get to Ordos is still unknown as BMI Baby does not fly to China. For sure its wouldn't be business class because they can't get her a decent airline on short haul in the first place.

Meanwhile, Miss World Germany Martina Ivezaj will be flying to China via Lufthansa. And she will be pampered with the great service onboard the Airbus A380- the world's largest airplane. This is a far cry from budget airlines like BMI Baby where even a cup a coffee is for sale inflight.

Some contestant do select their flag carriers. Miss World Chile Camila Recabarren is flying LAN Chile. Perhaps nothing beats than flying your won country's airline. Amazingly, Miss World Philippines Queenierich Rehman is not flying her home country airline despite the fact that Philippine Airlines flies frequently in many cities in China. She is flying business class via the host nation's de facto flag carrier - Air China. A diplomatic gesture, perhaps?
