The first few months of her reign, Ivian Sarcos Colmenares of Venezuela, as Miss World 2011, showed that she is a hard-working, willing to learn and humble beauty queen. The first entry written in her official online diary showed her intently polishing her English skills. It shows how serious Ivian is in fulfilling her duties as Miss World. But crowning Ivian as Miss World 2011 has a larger implication. Ivian actually saved Miss World.

1.) Ivian came in as a trend stopper. Since Ksenia was crowned in 2008, the fans were never happy with the results of 2009 and 2010 pageants. Fans have raised the question whether Miss World can still be categorized as a beauty pageant or it is judging something else. 2.) Miss World was officially recognized in Venezuela, home of beauty queens, as a charity movement rather than simply as a beauty pageant. Socialist in mindset, Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez warmly welcomed Ivian largely for her social work. Hugo hasn't accorded such state honors to any Venezuelan queen since the controversial leader sat in office in 1999.
