I never imagined myself setting foot in Bangkok, Thailand - one of my dream destinations, sooner than expected. My trip was made possible through the invitation of Tee Laksanavilas, owner of T-Pageant - the biggest pageant site in Thailand. At the last minute, Missosology's photographer Ferdie Abejon & I booked our flight –barely 2 days before the coronation night.

I adore the idea of watching the most prestigious national pageant of another country where culture is represented. This year's edition of Miss Universe Thailand is perhaps the most controversial & tension-filled. For the 1st time in history, they crowned a "mixed-breed" beauty named Farida Waller. It is also interesting to note that Surang Prempree, TV tycoon who runs this annual event had to move the pageant to a different channel & change the title from "Miss Thailand Universe" to "Miss Universe Thailand" since her annual contract with Channel 7 (Thailand's largest TV network) was not renewed.

There are 2 words that best describe the Miss Universe Thailand pageant: "majestic" & "formal." Tickets to the event are pricey and highly in-demand. Broadcasted live, I have to say the entire show is not only tastefully done choreography/production-wise but also fast-paced. Also worth mentioning are the gowns & personal style of each delegate. It was great honor to meet Thatsit, the "man" behind Amore competition gowns (used by Thai reps in both local & international pageants). His gowns are sheer perfection. I don't think my jaw has ever dropped this much before.

The grand finale took place in Siam Pavalai Theatre. It is the perfect venue on a number of different levels. I've seen other pageants but none can compare in terms of intrigue and grandiose of Miss Universe Thailand. Contestants paraded in their national dress, swimsuit & evening gowns. Thai women certainly know how to dance with effortless grace. Not to mention they are also fresh, down-to-earth & the most stylish women. One of the highlights of the show is Chanyasorn Sakornchan's final walk as Miss Universe Thailand 2011, she was mesmerizing.

My one & only biggest disappointment is not seeing my top favorite #28 get the call. She has a very wholesome looking, gorgeous face that still manages to be sexy; it's rare to find contestants who have that contrast.

Now onto the winners- Waratthaya Wongchayaporn, the 1st runner-up & Miss Thailand Earth 2012 is easily the most striking competitor onstage. From a distance- perfection. Close up she was still perfection. I cover the Miss Earth pageant yearly and I believe that her very endearing personality & attractive looks would make her a perfect fit for the title. I'm sure she'’ll do well. She has everything it takes to win her country's 1st Miss Earth crown.

Farida Waller, Miss Universe Thailand 2012 is on everyone's radar and a favorite from the very start of the competition. Critics have pointed out her striking resemblance to Kimberly Leggett, her Miss Universe 2012 co-candidate from Malaysia. It's up to MUT's team to embellish her looks & find the right formula. Farida gives off more of a traditional star quality, one that is timeless and elegant. Experts have noticed the new trend of Miss Universe organization in selecting the winner – the fresh, natural & sweet girls topple the fierce ones. Hopefully, Farida will polish her catwalk before the international competition rolls around. There is something about her presence that is strong. This beauty can certainly blossom into a force to be reckoned with.

Watching Miss Universe Thailand live, meeting several Thai beauty queens/pageant fans & gaining new friends made the whole experience truly unforgettable. I cherish the memories and dream of the day when I get to go back. Kapunka!
