Three days ago, Laura Godoy, who represented the capital city, won the coveted Miss Guatemala title. In the entire history of Guatemalan pageantry, only three women made it to the semis at Miss Universe: Maria Molina in 1955, Ilma Chang in 1984, and Jessica Scheel in 2010.
Jessica Scheel brought optimism to this Central American nation. She was after all not the real winner of her national pageant. She replaced Alejandra Barillas after the latter was allegedly unable to join due to injuries. Encouraged by the good showing of Jessica, Guatemala send Alejandra this year to compete at Miss Universe. Bad gown and a lackluster performance prevented Alejandra from making it to the semis. Guatemala is back to square one.
Now the hope of the nation is in the hands of Laura Godoy. The 23 year old, 1.74 meter high karate enthusiast, Laura is up for the challenge. What do you think are her chances? Will Laura be in the semis of Miss Universe 2012?
