When Olivia Culpo was crowned as Miss USA 2012, I asked this question: Is the fierce era now over? Well, my good friend Mocha - Missosology's beauty expert and Miss Universe 2013 correspondent - told me, not so fast! We just have to wait for the Miss Universe 2012 results. I guess, officially, the fierce era is now indeed over.
In the missosology lexicon, the word fierce is perhaps difficult to explain in detail. Let's just say you just can feel it. The energy, the cadence of the catwalk, the force of the presentation...Analyst firmly believe that the first ever Miss Universe with fierce attitude is no other than Amelia Vega of Dominican Republic. From then on, the winners of Miss Universe contest belongs to that so-called "fierce" category.
The year after Amelia’s victory, in 2004, Jennifer Hawkins of Australia stood out from the rest for her fierce moves in swimsuit and in the gown competition. Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova captured the hearts of the judges by her fierce eyes and poses. Of course by 2006, everyone realized that being fierce is the key to winning such that in the swimsuit competition alone, everyone saw all the fierce moves that put the slow movements of Miss Ethiopia Dina Fekadu so really out of place.
Now everyone knew that the queens of fierceness include the 2006 and 2007 winners of Miss Universe - Zuleyka Rivera of Puerto Rico and Riyo Mori of Japan. But in 2008 and 2009, the so-called fierceness seems to be have been toned down. And in 2010, the winner, Ximena Navarrete, no longer belong to the fierce camp. Instead, she exudes the image of sweetness. Her walk is more stately and elegant compared to the fierce movement of Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillips. The rest of course is history with the crowning of Leila Lopes and Olivia Culpo.

Ximena Navarrete, Leila Lopes and Olivia Culpo belong to the sweet category
Knowing what "era" are we in is very crucial. Contestants must adjust to the demands of the pageant and right now Miss Universe demands the aura of sweetness - stately and elegant walk, one must be comfortable with herself without that stiff disposition. So, welcome to the era of sweetness and may the sweetest girl, wins the crown this year!
