Miss Universe 2007 Predictions

This year’s edition of Miss Universe is particularly difficult to predict. It is safe to say that there is no clear leader in the tally board as of the moment despite the fact that the Miss Universe official website has already published the video clips taken during the preliminary competition.

On how to come up with our predictions is not technically difficult. We asked our on-site contributors to judge the delegates in the usual categories and because interviews are closed doors, we asked them to use the video clip at Miss Universe website. We also asked our commentators to score the delegates based entirely on the video clips and give a condensed commentary.

The results are as follows:

Top 15

Slovak Republic

She is great at the catwalk. Her swimsuit performance may be average and the design of her gown solicited mixed opinions but this girl can truly walk. She’s got style and vibrancy. She’s confident and she got lots of poise.

Top 14

Switzerland

Banking from their last year’s experience, this small European country is making a good impression this time around. She got the same class as last year’s Miss Switzerland. It looks like she’s here to prove that blondes indeed have more fun!

Top 13

Peru

She may not be one of the favorites but she is one of those that shone at the preliminary competition. She carried well her yellow gown and she sashayed the catwalk with elegance.

Top 12

New Zealand

Honestly, she is a surprise but she should have performed well during the interviews. She’s intelligent and articulate and performed beyond our expectations during the swimsuit and gown preliminaries.

Top 11

United States

Okay, she was booed all the way but she performed well. This would inflict more sympathetic scores and this proved her resilience and grace under pressure. A classic example of girl power!

Top 10

 Korea

Great catwalk skills, confident moves and a favorite of the many, she is the strongest delegate from the world’s largest continent. She may go down in history as one of the most popular delegate from her country in recent memory.

Top 9

Spain

Yes, she is one of the most applauded delegates in the pageant but let us not forget the strong affinity of the largely Mexican crowd with Spain. Nevertheless, she proved she deserves the applause. She is a top class material.

Top 8

Puerto Rico

We have to be realistic that the possibility of a reigning Miss Universe crowning her compatriot is very slim. But words will fail to describe how heavenly she is, how great are her legs and how she wowed us with her gown.

Top 7

Costa Rica

With a very Latina charm, great smile and curvaceous body, she is a force to reckon with at the pageant. She did not receive much attention but with great swimsuit performance she is on the road to victory. Her rich blue-hued gown - flowing and shining - is a huge plus too!

Top 6

Dominican Republic

After the victory of Amelia Vega, Dominican Republic is always on our watch list. They actually had some good moments at the pageant lately and they will surely repeat that this year. With a physique to die for, a good choice of gown (a soft color complements her moves and smiles) and her oozing confidence, she definitely left a good impression on stage.

Top 5

South Africa

There is little question that she is a statuesque blonde trained and honed to win the crown. She received lots of attention and the reviews from the press are impressive. She fared well at the preliminaries and this would mark a comeback for a country that enjoyed a series of semi-finals stint in the late 90s.

Top 4

Mexico

For a moment, let’s forget that she’s the local girl and one can clearly see that this girl got what it takes to be a Miss Universe. Hometown cheers can indeed help but had the pageant held somewhere else she will garner lots of attention due to her disarming smile, pure Mexican flare and a body that can turn everyone’s heads.

Top 3

Venezuela

For Ly Jonaitis, making it to the top fifteen is more than just about the crown. It is about redeeming the pride of a nation beset by economic, social and political problems. In her shoulders lies the burden of regaining the glory of a beauty pageant superpower. Thank goodness Ly is flawless. A hot pick leader, she is one of the well applauded delegates and wherever she is, it is undeniable that everyone is glued into her. The sash emblazoned with the words “Venezuela” could either be a boon or a bane and the finals night will judge which is which.

Top 2

Brazil

No doubt she ruled the catwalk. No doubt she is beautiful, sexy and intelligent. She will stand out in the finals night and will wow us even more. The competition is tight indeed but she may emerge as one of the toughest opponents. She’s professional in her moves, her smile is contagious and she struts in the catwalk as if she’s walking in the clouds.

Top 1

Italy

Surprise! Surprise! She’s not even in the hot picks and she’s not even mentioned by us for weeks. But look at her preliminary performance and you will see a Miss Universe in the making. Her sensuous move is enough to arouse even the most calloused person. Her aura is full of radiance and my! she is confident. The Italians were hungry for a crown for more than half a century. This year perhaps, it would be rude to deny them with that.
