OPINION :: Where do we go from here?

People had long accused Missosology as a staunch defender of Miss Earth and they probably have a point. How could a young, sometimes naive pageant get a Big4 status in a span of a decade? Without public support the pageant would die a natural death. But because the pageant got a lot of press coverage not only in the Philippines but worldwide, and because the pageant has a valid cause which is environmental advocacy, and because the pageant provided us with great queens, Miss Earth had survived the test of time.

Is Missosology defending Miss Earth? Well, when the facts call for it then yes. But when facts don't call for that, we do what we have to do. When the Russian press reported the alleged selling of Miss Earth title for $4million, Missosology is the first and perhaps the only major pageant related website to highlight it. We did not sweep it under the rug. When Athena Imperial was in the Top 4, we objected vehemently. When we saw the chubby figure of Stephany Stefanowitz at the Press Presentation, we are the first to put the issue on the spotlight.

But when the situation calls for us to defend Miss Earth, then we do it as well. When Thai fans circulated the photo of a chubby Stephany juxtaposed with the slim body of Waratthaya, then we have to clarify that the photo of Stephany they used was already weeks old. We have to point out that she looks great during the finals.

The recent video of Miss Earth founder Lorraine Schuck puts Missosology at the crossroads. Have we been supporting the wrong pageant? Have we supported the pageant because Missosology is based in the Philippines? Above all, which one will we believe? Carousel Productions or Russian Press? Times like this needs an introspection but we always believe we have been fair to Miss Earth and Missosology is diverse than what most people would like to think as the Admin panel has more foreigners than Filipinos.

For the moment, we are standing by with the Carousel Productions and Miss Earth. The strength of the pageant and its integrity will be decided by the people not by Missosology. We are not in business of promoting let alone destroying any pageants. How Miss Earth will be judged by the people could be reflected if countries will continue to send their delegates next year. Femina Miss India and Miss Venezuela Organization will not send delegates if they feel that the Russian Press prevail over Carousel Productions in the contest on who tells the truth. Miss Earth is a Big4 for the moment until further notice.
