Emerging as the overall winner in the field of 15 candidates, Carazo native Maria Teresa Cortes is the new Miss Mundo Nicaragua. She will represent Nicaragua in the upcoming Miss World 2019 pageant which will be held in Thailand later this year.
Wearing a yellow gown, Maria Teresa was a clear winner from the start thanks to her wit and spontaneity. Interestingly, the finals night was graced by Miss Universe Canada 2018 Marta Magdalena Stepien who sat as one of the judges.
Nicaragua has a rather spotty record at Miss World. Due to political situation, the country skipped the pageant from 1978-2000 except for a brief showing in 1998. The country’s best placement was in 2001 when Ligia Cristina Argüello Roa was one of the Top 5. Since then, no Nicaraguan beauty queen was able to make it to semis of Miss World.
