St. Lucia, a small island nation tucked in the lower corner of the Caribbean Sea, is making a comeback at the Miss World pageant this year. Carrying the nation’s banner is La Toya Moffat, a 23 year old, 5’9″ tall beauty who hails from capital city of Castries.
Recently, Missosology had a lovely conversation with La Toya and it was indeed fun to know more about this wonderful lady.
Tell us something that most people don’t know about you?
Let me see. I would say the fact that at an early age I was adopted by my grandmother and she taught me so much humanity, how to never give up, how to be a woman who has compassion.
Can you give us a small preview of your Beauty with a Purpose project?
Philanthropy has always been a major aspect of my life I am have been working closely with an organization in my country called Raise your Voice St. Lucia. It’s a feminist organization that was founded to bring awareness and help victims of sexual violence.
The Dances of the World segment was already scrapped but which dance would you like to showcase at Miss World?
Saint Lucia is home to many vibrant oral and folk tradition dances and is based on elements derived from the music of Africa, especially rhythmically, as well as Western Europe which includes quadrille, polka and waltz. I am not sure yet which dance I would like to show-case because I really like them all.
Among the Miss World titleholders, who do you admire the most and why?
I honestly do admire all the previous Miss World Winners. They are all positive role models I do really admire Agbani Darego – Miss World 2001.
Can you share your beauty secret?
To get your skin glowing drink as much water as possible and get as much sleep as you can. If all else fails and you’re relying on products, I recommend Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders.
In your opinion is it outdated to still have a swimsuit competition at beauty pageants?
No but I totally agree with Mrs. Morley. I think Miss World should be about how a woman speaks and how she can use her platform to impact the world and use her voice to bring awareness.
How would you describe St Lucia to your fellow contestants?
It’s the most beautiful place in the world. it is the perfect destination, whether for romance, rejuvenation or adventure. It’s really the gem of the Caribbean with natural landscape of gorgeous palm-fringed beaches, miles of unspoiled rainforest and the majestic Piton Mountains. My country is also proud of the natural waterfalls and breath-taking views. Oh. I can go on!
And finally a message to all of your fans out there.
I just want to say thank you so much to all my supporters. I truly appreciate everyone. I’m so happy that I am representing my island at Miss World 2016 and I’m grateful for all the support this far.
Missosology wishes La Toya Moffat all the best at Miss World 2016!
