The Miss Universe Puerto Rico Organization will not boycott the Miss Universe Pageant. This has been confirmed by the organization’s National Director Desiree Lowry via a post in their official Facebook page.

“We will continue our commitment to the Miss Universe Puerto Rico organization, focused on selecting the best candidate of our island. We are already planning the biggest event of beauty on the island, and as always, with an all out Puerto Rican pride”, said Lowry.

At the same time she added that “We reiterate that in no way we share the views of Donald Trump about immigrants coming to the United States, and we respect and we are proud of our Latino brothers. That will never change. Also, we know that because of recent incidents, there will be soon some major changes in the Miss Universe Organization, which will be announced in the coming days.”

Lowry is a Miss Universe contestant herself, landing at the Top 6 of Miss Universe 1995 contest. Puerto Rico boasts five Miss Universe crowns. Catalina Morales Gómez is the current titleholder.
