Jamila Munisi was born 7th
November 1986. She grew up in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. As a young girl she
had always admired the models and beauty queens that she saw on her
television screen, but she never thought that she could become one. She tried
her luck in 2006 at the encouragement of her friend, who told her that she
had the height and face to make it in the modeling business. She joined the
Beauty Queens of Tanzania beauty pageant organized by Compass Communications
under the direction of Maria Sarungi Tsehai. To her own surprise, Jamila was
crowned as runner up with the title of Miss Globe International Tanzania. She
traveled to Tirana, Albania where the finals were held. Jamila performed
exceptionally well as she won two awards (Miss Casino and 1st runner
up for Miss Talent). Jamila also made the cut as top 16 semi finalist. This
is a truly outstanding feat for a first timer. Her success at Miss Globe
International whetted her appetite for more beauty pageants and in 2007, she
took part in the first ever Miss Universe Tanzania competition. She was
crowned Miss International Tanzania and she immediately started her
preparation. Jamila has worked tirelessly to bring attention to children’s
issues including children with cancer and also under privileged children. Her
latest project has been to provide food and toys to nursery school children
from less privileged homes who often cannot afford to provide breakfast to
their children. Jamila’s freshness and joie de vivre
has made her one of the outstanding beauty queens in Tanzania as the
country’s hope for another Tanzanian accomplishment rests on her beautiful
shoulders. (Info and photo by Maria of Miss Tanzania
