Miss Earth 2008 is Miss Philippines!
“For me, what I would tell the newly-elected president of the United States, being one of the most powerful countries in the world, I would encourage him to use the environment or to implement environmental knowledge in the curriculum of all schools, whether in the United States or in the Philippines. Environmental knowledge is something all of us must share. But most importantly, we must teach the youth for it something we should instill in them so that in the near future they will be the ones to take care of our mother earth. I firmly believe in the saying that the children are our future." This was the winning statement given by Karla Paula Henry of Miss Philippines during the final Q & A round. When the top 4 were asked on what they would tell US President- elect Barack Obama about the state of the global environment if ever they were to meet him, she delivered her answer confidently and eloquently. But this was not the mere basis of her victory. During the swimsuit and long gown category, her presentation proved that “The crown is mine”. She was oozing with confidence and bested all the 84 other candidates; proved to the world that she’s a deserving successor of Canada's Jessica Trisko, Miss Earth 2007.
Miss Earth Air was Miss Tanzania Miriam Odemba who did a fabulous performance, as 1st Runner-up. 2nd Runner-up, Abigail Elizalde, Miss Mexico was Miss Earth Water and 3rd Runner-up, Miss Earth Fire was Tatiane Alves of Brazil.
The hosts for that grand pageant night were international singer-performer Billy Crawford, Priscilla Meirelles, Miss Earth 2004 and Miss Earth Canada 2006 Riza Santos.
Miss Colombia, Mariana Rodríguez, Miss Spain, Adriana Reverón, Miss Switzerland, Nasanin Nuri and Miss Venezuela , Daniela Torrealba made it until the top eight.
Those rounded up to the top 16 are Miss Czech Republic, Hana Svobodová, Miss Korea, Seo Seol-hee, Miss Nigeria Uko Ezinne, Miss Poland Karolina Filipkowska, Miss Romania Ruxandra Popa, Miss Russia Anna Mezentseva, Miss Thailand, Piyaporn Deejing and Miss USA, Jana Murrell.
Miss Earth 2008 Preliminary Activities...Who are the Head turners?
The very first Fashion design competition was held at the Amazing Theatre in Pasay City on November 4, 2008. Winner was Miss Philippines Karla Paula Henry wearing an Ivan Raborar creation.
Miss Venezuela, Daniela Torrealba did her unsurpassed presentation during the long gown competition held at PAGCOR, Grand Theatre in Paranaque on November 3, 2008. She won the Best in Long Gown Award.The luscious and elegantly designed dress was heightened by her personality which eventually made her get a hold of the award.
November 2, 2008 (6 pm), talent competition was held at Tamayo’s Villa Immaculada in Manila and Miss Australia Rachael Smith won the award.
Last October 25, 2008, preliminary swimsuit competition was held in three locations-Sabang Beach Resort, Puerto Princessa, Palawan; Golden Sunset, Calatagan, Batangas; and, Manila, Philippines. The candidates were divided into three groups and each group was assigned to compete in each of the given locations. The top 15 in each group then competed in the final swimsuit competition held at the Fontana Leisure Park in the Clark Freeport Zone, Angeles City, Pampanga on November 1, 2008. Best in Swimsuit and Miss Fontana awards were garnered by Miss Mexico Abigail Elizalde and Miss Philippines Karla Paula Henry respectively.
On October 28, 2008, the National Costume competition was held at the PAGCOR Grand Theatre in Paranaque City. Best in National Costume was grabbed by Miss Panama Shassia Ubillus and as unanimously chosen by the members of the press; Miss Photogenic was Miss Philippines Karla Paula Henry.
October 28, 2008- Miss Earth 2008 Media Presentation
Miss Earth 2008 is now heating up as the 85 environmentally- conscious beauties around the world vye for the crown. During the media presentation last October 28, 2008 in Manila, Philippines, the candidates posed for their swimsuit photo shoot, expressed the personal environmental campaigns and held in their hands tree saplings and the message "6.7 billion people ... what can we do today?" simply reminds us to think of ways to help save our Mother Earth. This activity supports the theme "green lifestyle"- the theme of this year's Miss Earth competition.
Can She Finally Make It?
Thelma Guisselle Rodríguez Flores was crowned Miss Nicaragua Universe 2008, held at Rubén Darío National Theater in Managua. She competed at the Miss Universe 2008 in Nha Trang, Vietnam on July 13, 2008 but failed to make it in the final competition. She will again represent her country in the Miss Earth 2008 pageant on November, 2008. Some Missosology insiders say that her experience would be an edge for her in her second attempt to win a crown. Some also say that Thelma Rodriguez has changed a lot since Miss Universe- she looks a lot more fresh and she has gained so much experience since then. Rodriguez is from Chinandega, Nicaragua and studies tourist and hotel administration in the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN) in León.
Miss Earth Pakistan 2008
Nosheen Idrees, the 22 year old from Jhelum, Pakistan will be representing Pakistan in the Miss Earth pageant. Nosheen was crowned the third runner up for the Miss Pakistan World pageant on the 23rd of May, 2008.
A student of communications at the University of Sheffield, Nosheen hopes to bring back a title that can put Pakistan as a country that has the most beautiful women in the world. In her own words, Nosheen says, “Pakistan is a country where the most beautiful women exist and it’s a shame that it’s not recognized for it.” Nosheen is set to change the perception of how the world looks at Pakistan and hopefully she says that she may be able to spread the message of peace for her country and be a great ambassador for the youth.
Sonia Ahmed, the president of Miss Pakistan World made a statement recently saying that Pakistan has reached 20 international pageants in just 5 years time and that the main mission is to continue with the effort to get Pakistan recognized as the country with the most talented and beautiful women in the world. Confusion Over Miss Earth Ukraine
Scroll down in the news item below and you'll see that Miss Earth Ukraine 2008 is Anna Lapenko. Scroll down one more time and it's Olga Bilousova. Which is which really? Now Miss Earth Ukraine e-mailed us that Olga will indeed go to Miss Earth. What's happening in Ukraine? First and foremost Anna was not a runner-up. She was said to be the winner of public votes. Olga on the other hand was the winner but not so popular. Let's probably wait till Miss Earth's official website show the correct delegate.
New Miss Ukraine Chosen
Olena Zadorozhna, project manager of Miss Earth Ukraine announced that the original winner Olga Bilousova can't fulfill her duties and will be replaced by Anna Lapenko (picture above).
Miss Ukraine Earth 2008 to Represent Her Country
New Miss Ukraine Earth 2008 Olga Bilousova was crowned last September 25, 2008. She's only 18 years old but topped all other candidates. Kristina Korobko was the first runner-up and Tatiana Krushelnitskaya from Krivoy Rog was the second runner-up. Olga will represent Ukraine in the upcoming Miss Earth 2008. (Thanks to Stylemodels)
Miss Polonia 2008 Crowned

Latest Addition on Miss Earth 2008 Delegates' List
Miss Earth Brazil Tatiane Kellen Alves (top, left) from the state of Minas Gerais was recently appointed to represent her country to Miss Earth 2008 as the contest designed to select the delegate was cancelled. She was Miss Minas Gerais 2005 and Top 10 at Miss Brazil 2005. (Thanks to Sabiondo)

Miss Earth Canada 2008

Denise Garrido of Bradford, Ontario prevailed as the new Miss Earth Canada and earned the right to represent her country at Miss Earth 2008 to be held in Guam, Bali and Manila.
