What are cookies?

5. Social sharing and login
 
When you register or log in to Missosology.org with credentials from social networks like Facebook or Twitter, you authorise them to store a persistent cookie that will remember you and grant you access to our site every time you visit until it expires. You can delete that cookie (and revoke the access it grants) by updating your preferences with each respective social network. So if you no longer want to be able to log in through Facebook, you'll need to update your settings at Facebook.

6. Votings and Rating

We use cookies during our People's choice polls and/or during other photo gallery ratings. These cookies help us maintaining the operation of such events smoothly. Cookies thus generated can be persistent or non-persistent. During a Voting/Poll contest it is binding on every user to accept the cookie and is implicitly agreed upon by participating to vote in such contest.

Does anyone else use cookies on Missosology websites?

As we’ve explained above, cookies help you to get the most out of our websites.You can browse Missosology.org online with cookies disabled, though some interactions may not work. For example, ticking the “Stay logged in” box at login will not actually keep you logged in to the site unless you have enabled cookies.

The first time you accessed our website as a Missosologist  on16 October 2012, you should have seen an overlay which explained that by continuing to access our site, you are consenting to our use of cookies.

Do we track whether users open our emails/newsletters?

Our emails may contain a single, campaign-unique “web beacon pixel” to tell us whether our emails/newsletters are opened and verify any clicks through to links or advertisements within the email. We may use this information for purposes including determining which of our emails are more interesting to users, to query whether users who do not open our emails wish to continue receiving them and to inform our advertisers in aggregate how many users have clicked on their advertisements. The pixel will be deleted when you delete the email. If you do not wish the pixel to be downloaded to your device, you should select to receive emails from us in plain text rather than HTML.
