The consolidated Big4 Ranking for the year 2012 show some tell-tale trends but there is no doubt though that the Powerhouse of the Year goes to the Philippines. Check out this article http://missosology.org/more/uncategorized/item/1669-and-the-country-of-the-year-is
What makes the Big4 ranking unique and reliable is its nature of being consistent and predictable. For example, Venezuela (Big4 Rank # 2), Brazil (Big4 Rank # 3) and the Philippines (Big4 Rank # 5) are all top five in the Big4 Ranking. Their strengths were pretty much reflected by the fact that these countries are all in the Top 5 of Miss Universe as well as on the Top 4 of Miss Earth. Top ranked United States won the Miss Universe crown and is in the semifinals of all Big4 Pageants. This correlation between the actual trends and the trends at Big4 Ranking shows that we are not just pulling numbers from the air. Statistics don't lie unless of course wilfully done. Garbage in, garbage out so they say. So if you tweak your inputs you get whatever you want on the output. But this is not in the case of Big4 Ranking. We do not tweak out inputs just to satisfy our narrative.
One thing that the Big4 Ranking for 2012 revealed is that the ASEAN region (10 member grouping that includes Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, and the Philippines) is rising steadily. But this is particularly true in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. Vietnam was ranked as 91st in 2010 but moved to rank number 87 in 2011 and now is on the 85th rank. This can be attributed to the consistent participation of the country at Big4 countries although in 2012 they failed to send a representative at Miss International. On the other hand, the Philippines was on the 9th place in 2010 but its successive successes in all Big4 pageant pushed this nation into the Top 5 by 2012. This makes Philippines a superpower country along with United States, Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia.

Indonesia is also slowly rising. In 2010 it is ranked as 93rd and suddenly shot up to 89th in 2011 and in 2012 it is on 87th. The country can accredit its rise in the ranking through its consistent good showing at Miss World. Meanwhile Thailand is also slowly inching its way up in the ranking. From 31st in 2010 it is now on the 28th place. Accumulated scores are mainly from the National Costume points as well as on its good showing at Miss Earth especially in 2011.
The rest of ASEAN is not really good. Malaysia and Singapore are all flat in the trends indicating the these two nations require an overhaul with their selection process and training of delegates. Myanmar has still to catch up but interestingly, the country moved two ranks higher from its 2011 rank of 167.
